Breaking a few boundaries with flowers

When we talk about gifting flowers, we inevitable picture a female recipient. Someone gentle smelling that gorgeous bunch of rose or someone gleefully prancing around with a bunch of orchids and lilies. But, the picture still shows a woman in it. Ladies, it is time to break this tradition and gift some really cool flowers to the men in your life too!

Sending flowers in UK is a popular tradition that has been followed for occasions ranging from births to funerals. Flowers are generally considered appropriate gifts for ladies, families and business partners. It rarely is thought of as a good option for a man! But here a few options and tips that you can choose from and change this stereotype:

  • Flower decorations and arrangements need not be overly-ornate. Cut out those ribbons and little satin hearts. So, if you are a woman and you are trying to woo your manly companion, you can send a single, long-stemmed red rose in a vase of crystal Simple, elegant and to the point.
  • Flowers with loud smells should be avoided. Go for flowers with little or no aroma when you are gifting them to men. It is perfectly alright for a sweet fragrance to fill your man’s cabin at work but he wouldn’t like to smell like a flower on the street! So go for vibrant coloured Amazonian flowers such as the Helicionia. Coupled with large fresh green leaves, their reddish orange hue make for a delightful gift for your man.
  • Tall delicate vases are perfect for our homes. But a man perhaps wouldn’t appreciate having to go to the trouble of maintaining an expensive vase and tending to delicate flowers that wilt in a day. So what you can instead do is choose flower hampers that have sturdy but elegant looking flowers delivered in strong wickers baskets. Cut out porcelain and china as much as you can. You can also choose earthen ware such as clay and terracotta.
  • Make your flower arrangement funky! Ditch those traditional shaped vases and baskets, if you man has a quirky sense of humour. Instead, go for a short stubby whiskey glass or beer mug shaped vase. Add a profusion of freesias in a beer mug-shaped vase and it’s like you are gifting a frothing mug of joy to him!
  • While we are breaking some stereotypical habits here, it is a well-known fact that men generally shy away from overly cute colours such as pink, cerulean blue, bright neon green and orange. Bold, block colours like red, purple or cheery colours like white, yellow and green should be used a lot in flower decorations made for men. Wrap it in cellophane or good quality paper, tie a simple bow and you’ve got yourself a winner!

Flowers have amazing qualities. They are wonderful to look at; some have a good fragrance and are Nature’s way of making our lives cheerful and positive. So why not give a gift of them even to the men?!
